Dear Editor:
I am frustrated
by your
stigmatization
of the Bayshore
community in my
ward in your
most recent
article "Wild
west gripped by
fear" (Ottawa
Sun, Sept.
5/08). Crime is
an important
issue in all our
neighbourhoods
but
fear-mongering
is
irresponsible.
Your claim that
there is a turf
war among gangs
in Bayshore is
without
substance.
Gangs,
unfortunately,
do exist in
Ottawa - from
Stittsville to
Gloucester - but
Bay Ward is as
safe as Alta
Vista, as
Ottawa's crime
statistics show.
Further, I am
appalled that
you would
publish a
picture of
graffiti that
you acknowledge
is not
gang-related.
Congratulations
- you just made
this graffiti
vandal a "star"
in his twisted
fraternity! This
attention to his
tag is not
helpful to our
community - I am
sorry to see the
Sun sink so low.
